Confidence is an incredibly important characteristic for youth. As they grow and develop and come to find their place in the world, confidence helps them to preserve their identity in the face of challenges. And they will be challenged, almost every day, to adopt others’ ideas of them. Unfortunately, the loudest voices out their that are scrambling for ownership of our youth’s identities are those of the mass media. Insecurity is drilled into children before they even have a sense of who they are.
Equipping youth with a sense of their identity and capabilities through celebration endows them with a confidence that they have built with their own hands. They apply their attention and hard work to reap the true rewards of our program, which are a deep and secure sense of self and a joy that can’t easily be taken away.
The confidence that our students build through our programming will enable them to stand strong against the difficulties they will face as they move into adulthood.
